Located on the East coast of Africa, Tanzania is the largest of the East African nations, with a total area of 945,087 square kilometers (364,900 square miles). It is the Africa you have always dreamed of: vast plains teeming with wild animals, Kilimanjaro snowcapped peaks rising above the flat scrubland and colorful Maasai herding their cattle alongside grazing wildebeest.
Within its borders lie the world's largest intact caldera – the Ngorongoro Crater home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife; Africa's most famous national park - the Serengeti well known for the annual wildebeest migration; Olduvai Gorge - where fossil fragments of the very earliest ancestors of Homo sapiens were discovered by the Leakey's and last but not least Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
Tanzania is not only a safari destination. A visit to the "Spice Island" of Zanzibar or the islands of Mafia and Pemba with their idyllic palm lined beaches and tropical climate tempered by gentle sea breezes is the perfect way to round off a visit to Tanzania.
