Stonetown Tour – 4 hours

Visit the bustling city market, walk the narrow alleys and admire the fascinating architecture and ornately carved doors. You will have a chance to see the former slave market next to the Anglican church; the Tippu Tip House, where the famous slave turned slave-trader lived; the Old Fort; the Palace Museum and the House of Wonders, the first building on Zanzibar to have electric lights and a lift. At the Africa House you will enjoy sundowners and the view before continuing on to Forodhani Gardens to enjoy some candlelit seafood cookery and to absorb the Swahili atmosphere.

Spice Island Tour – 3 hours

spiceA guided tour to a spice plantation starts with a drive through the countryside along tree-lined roads. Your guide will show you how to identify fruits and spices and you will be invited to see, feel and taste everything. The farm workers climb trees to seek out specific spices such as the cloves inside little pink flowers, cinnamon from the bark of a tree, or dig up ginger from the root of the plant. In addition you will be shown the lipstick tree, henna bushes and ylang-ylang famous for its scent. Taste fresh fruit such as pineapple and bananas. You will receive palm leaf accessories including bracelets or ties and baskets, which are woven right in front of you. It is possible to purchase exotic spices such as pepper and nutmeg too.

Dhow Trip – 5 hours

dhowSet sail from Stonetown around 9 am on a dhow bound for either Bawe Island which lies five kilometres west of the town or to the Chumbe Island area which is situated eight kilometres to the south. Enjoy an hour guided snorkeling where you will be able to see a stunning array of colored coral and tropical fish. Equipment is provided. Then climb back on board the dhow and sail to a beautiful sandbank, where crabs and sea birds are often found. The crew will prepare a midday barbeque of freshly grilled fish and a selection of cold beverages. After lunch you can relax or go swimming in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Return to Stonetown early afternoon.
